Position Purpose
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Surgical Dental Assistant with 2+ years of relevant surgical experience and genuine enthusiasm for surgical procedures. The ideal candidate brings a positive, team-oriented mindset, a strong work ethic, and a dedication to helping the practice achieve its goals. This role requires someone ready to contribute from day one—playing a key role providing direct support to the doctor, maintaining efficient workflows, and ensuring the room is set up to support optimal patient care. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Review patient medical histories, obtain/record blood pressure checks, and accurately document medications, medical conditions, and any relevant alerts
- Ensure proper consent forms are signed by the patient and/or guardian
- Maintain accurate patient records that are completed for each procedure
- Capture needed x-rays and high-quality CBCT images with accuracy
- Set up and break down operatory equipment and instruments; ensure timely and accurate charting
- Assist the doctor chairside during a wide range of surgical dental procedures, evaluations, and post-op visits
- Maintain procedural readiness by anticipating clinical needs and following chairside assisting protocols with confidence and efficiency
- Provide support for ongoing surgeries – Monitor patients post anesthesia
- Educate patients on procedures, prescribed medications, detailed pre-operative, and post-operative instructions
- Clean and sterilize instruments and maintain treatment rooms according to infection control protocols
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the surgical area to ensure compliance with health regulations
- Monitor and manage clinical inventory, ensuring necessary supplies are stocked and organized
- Oversee basic daily, weekly, and quarterly maintenance and troubleshooting of dental/surgical equipment to ensure smooth operations
- IOS and CBCT Scans for the lab to fabricate needed surgical guide stents, and other lab scans
- Fabricate Essix retainers
- Adhere to OSHA/HIPAA – follow strict safety and regulatory guidelines
- Support co-workers as needed
- Make follow-up phone calls to patients
- Opening and closing the office each day
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- 2+ years of surgical dental assisting experience is required
- Strong understanding of dental/surgical terminology pertaining to periodontal/oral surgery
- Knowledge of implant procedures, All-on-Four, and overdentures
- Proficient in taking impressions
- Demonstrated understanding of sterilization principles required
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills. Approach conflicts constructively, identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Must be detail-oriented
- Consistent professionalism in appearance and attitude

Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- CPR certification preferred
- Certificate in dental assisting and/or surgical assisting preferred
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged standing, sitting, and walking
- Frequent bending and twisting
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 25lbs.
- Can physically assist patients, including holding, pulling
- Dexterity to grab, hold, adjust, and pick up instruments frequently
